The Yamaha SS-30, In my humble opinion is by far the best string machine / synth ever produced. Forget the ARP, Logan, Elka, Crumar etc, this baby is lush, warm & durable. I've had three of them. Just listen to Ultravox's 'Vienn', 'Rage In Eden' & Quartet albums to hear that lovely analogue sound;)

My Yamaha SS-30 is one of the best string synths I've heard. With the brilliance knob turned to the right the sounds are crystal clear, and when turned to the left become very warm. The sounds you can get remind me of listening to early Pink Floyed or Elton John records that had that awesome high pitched string note or chords hanging around the mix.Even though it is a very simple machine, you can get a great variety of sounds by combining the Viola,Violin 1,Violin 2,Cello 1 and Cello 2 tabs. A few of the features are vibrato depth and delay, attack and sustain, pitch and detune and an amazing essemble chorus effect that takes you back to the 70's.It even has a split keyboard mode with three settings. For the dance music of today the SS-30 is perfect. You cant beat the real thing in the studio no matter how good your sampler is! This string machine definetly stands out in my view.
