I have a Casio 61 key, and today at a local Auction, i bought a BRAND NEW NEVER PLUGGED IN Yamaha PSR 510 for $130, with a stand. One of my neighbors had bought it New and had never used it ONE TIME .

...I've been hoping to get a yamaha keyboard for awhile, and was even going to be happy with one that taught me to play simple piano, with no effects, but while watching out for somthing interesting or very affordable, a PSR 510 came along being offered for $25. I quickly read the review on here, realized what an exceptional deal on such an exceptional model it was, watched a quick youtube video on it, and ran over and got it.It came to me IN THE ORIGINAL BOX w all the accessories, even the original foam and wrapping plastic !!! Got it home now and I am in LOVE with this keyboard already! My others are an EPS 1 vintage sampler from a flea market I paid $60 for with a great softcase and many discs worth of samples, but it doesn't work, so it is headed out the door now, and a Multivox 404 or 440 (I forget right now) vintage string synth I got for free! Patience has paid off, even though if you have money and want to start playing keyboards, DO NOT WAIT AS LONG AS I DID HAHA..WOW I love this 510, it plays backup for me !!! YAY !!! I'll be 50 this year but right now I am 10 and in love and VERY HAPPY!!!

This keyboard is the best thing that has happened to me in a long time. My neighbor had it sitting in his attic untouched for years. I went next door one night and jammed for him on the acoustic guitar and mentioned that i am an all around musician and can play almost anything. he tells me "hey, i have an old keyboard in the attic, ill get it for you one of these days". the very next day i see him sitting outside and he says "take a look at this" and shows the Yamaha PSR 510. Then he proceeds to tell me that he never plays it and that i can HAVE it. i havent picked up a guitar in almost 2 months because i have been so busy discovering different things about the keyboard. it sounds great and is very versatile. i think im in love...

There is still a lot more to this PSR-510 than I have taken the time to learn but the acompaniment tracks you can create with it are endless. Note: if you get the er1 message then just turn it off; Now hold down both of the reset buttons (+ and -)at the same time while you turn on the power. This will put everything back to normal.

After years of doing not-much with this, and eventually buying a Yamaha S-80 to play piano in a band with and experiment with, I dragged this out early in 2008 for two purposes. It's portable (an S80 is heavy-ish), and it runs on 6 D-cells (was doing some acoustic jamming away from electrical outlets).

That being said, I've fallen in love with it as a quickie-practice instrument I can easily carry in the soft case I bought for it. It's easy to set up, doesn't sound bad at all for its size and age. As at least one other commenter noticed it's a bit too easy to hit a key too hard (or even brush it and have it play a sour note), though I find that now that I jam with it roughly weekly, my fingers are getting used to, well, Not Doing That.

I finally used its MIDI last night after buying a USB-to-MIDI adapter, worked nicely to get some tracks into Garage Band on my Mac. Now to get some software that will let me do MIDI out.

I'm really happy with my decision made 14 years ago, and just appreciating it now.
