This isn't a poor man's anything. Certainly not a CR 78 (!) Nothing sounds warmer. Soooo easy to use. Lovely build quality. Great to mix sounds and beats. Extremely intuitive. I love the start/stop bar. Very rare. Only ever seen one for sale. Reliable to use. The warrrmmmththth! It's like sitting in front of the fire on stormy night! Miles above the cr68..makes the 78 look confusing crap!

What a mother! poor man's cr78 - so what? I got mine about 5 years ago 2nd hand for 24 pounds. I even saw a second one a year later at a boot fair (garage sale), but couldn't be bothered. Sounds great - just check out that groovy guiro!. Slow it down and sample away. Shove it through ANYTHING (spring reverb/Phaser/Tape delay) and enjoy! Sync? - Easy! - get yer 606, or some new-fangled converter, set up a pattern on yer toms out (606, one on beat 1, one on beat 16, plug that out into the stop/start on yer tr77 - rock'n'roll! Naturally you have to adjust the tempo slider to get a decent tempo match - come on, you didn't think it'd be that easy? - but it works! - tango-tastic!

I've got one !!! It is the second instrument produced by Roland (1972 I think). The manual is made of two pages only (and you can trust me that's enough). I love this thing. I use it with a metal master pedal and well... it sounds like hell ! Thanks Roland.
