just an extra bit - for the folks from The Facility who felt compelled to state a "correction" to my review - the XP-30 is NOT a JV-2080 engine (with 3 insert effects) but is a JV-1080 engine (1 insert effect) in a keyboard form. it includes the Presets E bank from the 2080, though, which is where you may be getting your impression that it is a 2080 engine. only 1 insert effect, which was my actual point with the 1080 comparison.

regardless, it is an excellent combination of price and functionality - lots of goodies for real cheap!

Yes, buyers should know that the 5V Smartmedia cards for the XP30 (the SM-4 card) is almost unavailable. The ONLY place you will find them is eBay, but probably not for too much longer. Better get em before they are all gone which will most likely be soon. The XP30 is a legendary machine and full of possibilities. But you will need the cards if you want to have tons of extra RAM. They are extremely important especially for ease of use in live performance.

This thing is really the best low-budget live-synth to get (under 700 US$)!! Great User interface, 4 sliders, good playable keys (look at that horrible s30 keybed from yamaha in comparison...) I agree that the xp-30 sounds DIFFERENT than my old xp-80, but I would not say that it sounds worse, the sounds are top notch !

yeah I`m a roland addict, using XP-80 (with4jv-boards) XV-5080 (with 4srx boards & akai samples) jp-8000 xp-30 (with keys of 60&70`s board)

Wonderful bang for the buck!my only gripe is that you can only find the 5V SmartMedia expansion / storage cards for this puppy on ebay, it seems, and those will probably all be gone before long too. Rolands been out of em for long time now. Too bad. Other than that factor, the XP30 is an awesome machine. The features are packed and the extra ROM expansion slots are a huge bonus as you can always add new sounds, although the sound boards are not so cheap. The price has dropped on the XP30. Many pros still use it today.
