*ENGLISH: The X-Station 49 Novation, is the perfect balance between price [u$600], size and ability for this beautiful machine. Also you can find it, in 25 and 61 keys. . 100% Programmable analogue Synth of 3 osc, poly and monophonic sounds, with vectorial modulator, sensitive keyboard and aftertouch sounds effect. . 100% Programmable MIDI Controller. So you have two tools in one. Very good option for any keyboardist who are looking for an powerful additional analogue synthesizer with european sounds, and plus, a powerful MIDI controler with 2 channels output. Nothing compared to this, in this price range. The criticism is the chassis, it should been metallic.

I had previously owned a Xiosynth, but sold it due to its build quality and the fact you couldn't use MIDI without a computer connection (it worked wonderfully through USB, by the way). Years later, I thought I'd give an X-station a shot...bad idea. The computer interface is decent enough (once again). The build quality is sturdier than I expected. However, the effects are weak (especially the reverb). The synth has a cold and lifeless quality to it. The horizontal pitch control on the joystick is messing up (apparently, a common problem). No good...get a cheap Xiosynth instead.

Ok. I bought this machine firts it was released. I purchuased it for 600 euro. Maybe too much. I think the current price is much more honest (about 400 euro new). Here we are, this is a all in one machine, perfect for a complete mobile recording studio, gig synthesizer and controller. That's what they said. My opinion is: its a nice controller and yes, it's a good solution when your are travelling around and you can't carry with you lots of stuff to work. But the synthesizer is very bad for me, really. I DON'T LIKE it. I own a Novation NOVA LAPTOP and the X Station synthesizer engine is so FAAAAAAAAAR from Novation quality sounds which i am use to. I would preferred to buy it (like the user in the top said) in a metal chassis and not shity plastic, so horrible to make you feel: "I don't want to play it". I think the looking of a syntheseizer give you more then a chassis. Sometimes you see a good one and just switch it on and start yo play for hours and hours. This one, is not a kind of thoose. But a good piece of stuff to have to solution your life when you need an easy machine to carry around. i give it 3 which is more then half points anyway. My opinion is: buy it not for te synthesizer.

functionally, this bit of gear seems like a great idea and an awesome value. however, compared to some of novation's previous products like the kstation or ks4, this unit fails to deliver on the quality build aspect. it feels terribly plastic and is a poor excuse for semi-weighted keys. call me crazy but the loose feeling in the keys and knobs do not encourage me to want to play it. otherwise i've always had a fond opinion of novation products. give this unit a metal case, better knobs, and keys and novation might deserve a 5.

Idea of this product is great, but: 1. it has a bug in synth's engine (some programs do clicks in audio - i've sent e-mail to novation about 2 years ago, they have answered about half year later that that bug is known, but did nothing till today, next operating system update didn't solve the problem)- in older os versions setting synth mode from mono to poly was solving the problem, in newer os disabling osc phase sync to 0 sometimes helps 2. it has another bug in os - if you have autopan feature set in synth's engine and you turn to template mode and listen to stereo signal from audio ins - right channel is autopanned (trick: you have to turn to synth mode and choose a patch, witch has autopan disabled and then return to template mode) 3. plastic case is very easy to scratch 4. sometimes it is very hard do configure asio on ACPI computers (trick: you have to install another xp on your laptop in non ACPI mode - for me i works fine - 9 ms on pentium 4 1.6 GHz - on the same machine on windows in ACPI mode it wasn't working at all - only noise) 5. i got mine (remote audio extream) with V-Station and cubase SE - witch is great 6. abelton live Novation Edition is so cut, that i uninstalled it (4 channels x 4 scenes - it is good for demo, not for lite version) 7. x-station's keyboard and controllers are very good (aftertoutch works fine) 8. onboard effects are so so (it's a piti that delay is so simple - without filters ect) 9. preams and AD/DA are ok and work fine 10. toutchpad is very nice to use (two parameters in X/Y mode - filter cutoff and resonance for instance)

All in all: x-station is very good controller and AD/DA converter with good enough preamps, x-station (one cable PC connection is GREAT)

x-station as a synth - i don't like that kind of sound (it is very punchy, but for me - too mutch plastick)
