I used to own a Prophet VS, I sold it to buy an Evolver. NO regrets, smaller, more effects,4 sequencers, and honestly sounds better.I could buy 3 or 4 evolvers for the price of one "Vintage" prophet vs and not have to worry about them crapping out on me.The best of the old and the new.

the little evolver is truly a pocket battleship . tease it & annoy it & and it roars. To the guy below saying it can't sound analog, sorry sir but you can't have programmed it hardly. get hold of the patches from the MEK banks if you want to hear, seriously analog madness.

I have had my desktop evolver for almost 4 months now and i can say that i really like it. I make mainly psytrance (or some weirdo stuff) and evolver very well suited for that. I love the endless modulation possibilities, they make evolver very flexible instrument. Basses, leads, bells etc 'normal' sounds are all pretty much ok, but where evolver is really unique and beyond all other synths is creating of the unidentified sound objects. Also i think i need to say that evolver doesnt sound analog at all, if you are looking for a 303 clone or the fattest machine in the universe then evolver is not the synth for you. There is one thing on evolver what i dont like at all; the filter. To be honest, it sucks, you cannot make good, resonant filter sweeps with this thing. But still, i love evolver even tho filter sweeps are pretty essential.

just to add - my review was for the mono evolver keyboard rather than the rack - could you add that point to the beginning of my post ? thanks very much.

What a machine. The thick sound cuts through the mix : this is an ideal instrument for those searing leads and basslines, and makes virtual analogue attempts at the same kinds of sound almost comical. The digital/analogue mix allows for some great experiments too, and it's also beautifully crafted physically with an attention to detail . Complaints about particular features miss the point , I feel ; one buys this for great, warm and raw sound.
