Scott Adair writes:
Based on the popular XP line of workstations, Roland has released the big brother of the MC50mkII, a hardware sequencer with software sequencer resolution, abundant memory, and direct from disk reading of sequences. Think of this as a XP80 minus keyboard and sounds, triple the sequencer memory and five times the resolution.

I had the chance to look at this system at a party, and it looked very nice next to a JP8000 and some turntables. But to truly get the most out of a unit like this you will need at least one keyboard synth and one rackmount synth.

Some of the other great features of this little box, (btw its about 2/3 the size of a rackmount mixer - would fit in a backpack) include sysex recording. This means you could bring along those electribes and use the mc80 to store additional patterns/songs that wouldnt fit in their memory. Just start normal recording, send the sysex dump from the gear and then play back later (between sets to load the next tracks). Features like this would rock using an internal harddrive.

(Thanks to Scott Adair for this info.)
