I haven't tried this machine myself, so all info here is from the thin but enthusiastic Roland leaflet. The JV-30 appears to be one polite and well-behaving multitimbral PCM-based GM/GS synth. It is also fully compatible with the Roland MT-32 and SC-55 Sound Canvas modules. Not much pioneering spirit maybe, but rather Japanese efficiency. I have the feeling that the JV-30 is made for those musicians in mind, who don't really want to dwell too deep into programming individual sounds, but who are quite happy with using the standardized sounds provided by the programmers at Roland Corporation. Hm, I think I would go for the more flexible (but surely more expensive) JV-80 anytime...
