Akai has released version 1.8 of the MPC software and say that they have vastly improved the sample capture, edit and slicing experience. They say that things like the different forms on non-destructive chop, the Live Chop feature, the LiveLooper are treading new ground for MPC, going beyond where it has been before. We haven't seen the official press release yet, but above is a video of 1.8 in action from Needlz & Donut, while below SoundsForSamplers.com offer a tutorial on the Lazy Chop method,using both Live Chopping and Scrub - Creating your chops in real time while the music you are sampling is playing.

NON-DESTRUCTIVE CHOP
A super-flexible way to use parts of your samples without destructive editing. MPC v1.8 provides two types of non-destructive chop: per-sample chopping saves your slices into the sample file for use in other projects, and per-pad slicing uses different start/end points within each pad

Allows you to record, overdub, and manipulate audio in real time


PAD PERFORM MODE
Assign musical scales, modes, chords, and progressions to the pads for more creative performances
