You may have come across the highly specc'd (and highly regarded) 'Orpheus' Firewire audio interface/mic pre from Prism Sound; I don't think it's too contentious a statement to say that firewire doesn't exactly seem to be the way forward, so no surpises that manufacturers are looking at alternative protocols - Prism have opted for USB 2.0 for their latest range of interfaces, and Chris Allen gave us a run through of the new additions to the family.

The siblings Lyra 1 and Lyra 2 represent the entry level options of the range; Titan is pretty much a direct USB equivalent of the popular Orpheus, and the big daddy of the family is the new and almost-released Atlas, an 8-in/8-out analog device with SPDIF/AES, an MDIO expansion slot and 8 channels of ADAT, aimed at location recording, with 8 high-quality mic-amps.
