The new Aphex USB 500 Rack is now available in UK stores. The US manufacturer tells us that this latest release combines a 500 series rack with a USB 2.0 audio interface, bridging the gap between traditionally analogue 500 Series workflows and modern DAW workflows by enabling direct use of 500 series modules with digital audio workstations - a development that also makes the 500 Series concept accessible to a wider range of users.

The 6 x 8 computer audio interface operates at up to 96kHz, offering input to computer via 4 modules and stereo S/PDIF and output from the computer via 4 modules, stereo analogue and stereo s/PDIF. Favourite mic pre modules can be used as inputs, and analogue compressors and EQs as hardware inserts in the DAW. These are all monitored using the USB 500 Rack's pristine monitoring section, which includes Mono and Dim functions along with two high performance headphone amplifiers featuring Aphex's HeadPod 4 technology.

Modules can be chained in the analogue domain for greater flexibility, or linked for stereo compression. Balanced XLR connections are also provided, enabling the USB 500 Rack to additionally function as a standard analogue 500 Series rack.
