Foo Fighters Could Play Nirvana Songs, Says Pat Smear

Pat Smear has discussed the idea of performing Nirvana songs with Foo Fighters singer/guitarist Dave Grohl and with former Nirvana bass player Krist Novoselic.

In an interview with Digital Spy, Pat Smear described the cult of Nirvana as 'a strange thing' and said that he'd be up for performing Nirvana songs with Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic.

He said the others might not feel the same, but that he would be in favour:

"I think that's different for those guys [Dave and Krist] than it is for me...I know Nirvana's a strange thing. It means a lot of things to a lot of people. I personally wouldn't have a problem with it."

Pat Smear was drafted in to play guitar for Nirvana to support Kurt Cobain, providing rhythm guitar and and extra layer for live performances.

Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl was the drummer in Nirvana, and drafted Pat into the Foo Fighters after Kurt Cobain's death.

When pressed further on the issue, Foo Fighters guitarist Smear said:

"Yeah, why the f*** wouldn't we play Nirvana songs? That's my attitude. I get it, y'know? But I don't know...for me it's like, 'Why wouldn't we?'

"[I] never thought about who else could do it. It was one of those things that just happened. I can imagine the three of us hanging out together, somewhere, with something or jamming."

A new Foo Fighters album is slated for a 2014 release, Dave Grohl recently said in an interview with XFM Radio:

"We have been in our studio writing and in the past few weeks we've written an album and we are going to make this album in a way that no-one's ever done before and we're pretty excited about it... It's a little ways off – it's not ready to happen right now – but I think next year is going to be a really big year for the Foo Fighters, without question."
