Mitch Malloy Van Halen Audition Audio Leaked Online

90s tape is released on Youtube   21-Oct-12

It's amazing what can be unearthed from the vaults and uploaded on Youtube. In 1996 Mitch Malloy was auditioning to be Van Halen's new singer, after Sammy Hagar's departure.

He was actually offered the gig, but the decision was overridden by Van Halen's then manager Ray Daniels, and Gary Cherone was eventually given the position.

The subsequent album 'Van Halen III' struggled commercially, reaching 'Gold' status for over 500,000 copies sold in the US, compared to their previous album 'Balance', which reached 'Triple Platinum' status and sold over 3,000,000 copies in the US.

Might it have been a different story if Mitch Malloy went on to sing with Van Halen? Who knows, but it's certainly interesting to listen to his efforts.

The leaked track was recorded at 5150 studios, with Eddie Van Halen, Michael Anthony, and Alex Van Halen.
