Green Day have cancelled a string of shows // Some Rights Reserved // Daniel D'Auria |
Who do you call when Green Day pull out of your festival because Billie Joe has to go into rehab? You call the Metallica boys.
The band have stepped in to take Green Day's slot at the Voodoo Art and Music Experience in Los Angeles.
Billie Joe Armstrong entered rehab for substance abuse after an outburst on stage at the iHeartRadio festival in Las Vegas, and subsequently Green Day cancelled a string of shows and promotional experiences.
The Voodoo Art and Music Experience were left without a headliner, but the slot has now been filled by Metallica. Other artists on the bill include Jack White, who was recently lambasted for reportedly walking off stage early in New York, and superstar DJ Skrillex.
Lars Ulrich said in a statement:
"Our good friends and fellow Bay Area residents Green Day had to unfortunately cancel their plans to be there, so we are more than happy to fill in for them in our own unique way."
The second installment of Green Day's new album be released November 12, with the third coming out next January.
The festival starts on October 26.
