Propellerhead has announced that hundreds of companies are developing instruments, effects and utilities for its new Rack Extension platform. They tell us that the new technology, released in June this year as part of Reason 6.5, has been met with great enthusiasm from the developer community. The list of committed developers working on new devices for Reason grows by the day.
Rack Extensions are fully integrated with Propellerhead's Reason and Reason Essentials music making software and take full advantage of all of Reason's features such as unlimited undo, built-in integrated patch browser, parameter automation and compatibility with hardware controllers--allowing Rack Extension developers to focus on what they do best: designing inspiring user interfaces and writing great-sounding audio code. Mats Karlöf of Propellerhead, told Sonic State, "It's fantastic to see all the wonderful things that people create for the Reason rack and bring to the market. We would love to see even more instruments, effects and utilities for this creative environment so come to our website and register for the SDK!"
All Rack Extensions are available exclusively through the Propellerhead Shop. Distribution, payment solutions, hosting, installation, upgrades and registration is all taken care of, even for developers who want to provide their creations for free to the Reason user base. The Rack Extension SDK comes complete with code examples, graphical assets, automated testing and is fully documented. Propellerhead also provides development support. Umut Isik of Flower Audio had this to say, "At the beginning of this year, we started developing for other plug-in platforms, but we had no good solution for making a user interface--and we hadn't even started thinking about how to handle sales and marketing. Today, we already have a Rack Extension on the market that people are buying and using. And it will still be available and working years from now, while we can focus on developing more products!"
