Fender is giving away the Jimi Hendrix four-CD Winterland deluxe-edition box set to 15 lucky winners. All you have to do to enter is to tweet – see the competition page for details.
On Thursday, October 10, 1968, Jimi Hendrix walked onstage with his Experience, bassist Noel Redding and drummer Mitch Mitchell, for the opening set of a long weekend at Winterland in San Francisco. The trio would play six sold-out shows over three nights at the 5400-capacity hall, just as the seminal Electric Ladyland was released. In September 2011, Legacy Recordings and Experience Hendrix release the famed performances on Winterland, a four-CD deluxe-edition box set chronicling the event.
The collection includes previously unreleased music from each of the Winterland shows, including rare live versions of "Manic Depression," "Are You Experienced?" "Tax Free," and "Little Wing," and dramatic interpretations of Cream's "Sunshine of Your Love," Howlin' Wolf's "Killing Floor" (with the Experience joined by Jefferson Airplane bassist Jack Casady) and Bob Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone." Also featured is an interview with Hendrix recorded backstage at the Boston Garden shortly after the Winterland performances, and a 36-page book with previously unpublished photos and commentary.
