Gibson reintroduces the RD Standard   05-May-11

RD Returns

Here's what Gibson has to say...
Introduced in 1977, the RD Standard became one of the most successful modernist designs of Gibson's third decade of solidbody electric guitar production. With its updated blend of Firebird and Explorer body styling, 24 3/4" scale length, superb playability, and versatile humbucking tones, it blended heaps of Gibson tradition with a fresh voice and look that was extremely appealing to players seeking a new way forward.
Now Gibson USA reintroduces the RD Standard. Loaded with the look, feel and sound of the original RD, this guitar is still entirely in step with the 21st Century, and proves just how far ahead of its time it was on its arrival nearly 35 years ago.
As entirely fresh as its styling may be, the RD Standard starts with one of Gibson's most traditional tonewoods as the cornerstone of its design. A solid mahogany body is joined to a glued-in quarter-sawn mahogany neck that is carved to a supremely comfortable rounded '50s profile. Its grade-A rosewood fingerboard carries 22 medium-jumbo frets, and it has a 12-inch radius for Gibson's famous choke-free bending. Add a PLEK-cut Corian nut and 17-degree back-angled headstock for optimum resonance and sustain, and you've got a sweet, rich, multi-textured tone machine that is perfect for a wide range of genres and playing styles. The entire package looks great, too, in your choice of high-gloss Trans Amber or Ebony Black finish, with a three-ply black/white/black pickguard that offers a subtle look back toward its Gibson predecessors of the '60s.
To ram it all through your amp of choice, Gibson USA includes a pair of classic PAF-styled Burstbucker Pro pickups, both made with genuine Alnico V magnets. The Burstbucker Pro in the neck position yields full-throated voices with plenty of warmth but no shortage of clarity, while the slightly hotter Burstbucker Pro in the bridge gives you all the power and punch necessary for everything from crunchy power chords to singing leads. The classic pairing of a Tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece provides a solid anchor with uncompromising adjustability for precise intonation and the unparalleled sustain for which these components are famous. At the other end, a set of authentic Groverâ„¢ kidney button tuners provide efficient performance and outstanding tuning stability.
Add it all up, and it's the perfect tone machine for all your rock, blues, grunge, punk or fusion adventures. Each guitar comes protected in a hardshell RD case and includes an owner's manual and adjustment literature, along with Gibson's Limited Lifetime Warranty and 24/7/365 customer service.
