Guitar Center, the world's largest musical instrument retailer and DIRECTV, the world's most popular video service, today announced a new episode of Guitar Center Sessions featuring Jakob Dylan. In a series of performances and interviews with host Nic Harcourt, Dylan shares the pivotal moments of his musical career and shines a light on balancing success and self in front of a studio audience.
Supported by vocalist Kelly Hogan and guitarist Paul Pigat (Neko Case), who both appeared on Dylan's 2010 solo album titled Women + Country, Dylan plays tunes from his solo projects, including "Nothing But the Whole Wide World," "Everybody's Hurting" and "Truth For a Truth". The trio also offers a performance of the popular Wallflowers hit "Three Marlenas". Through intimate conversations with Harcourt, Dylan discusses the making of Women + Country and shares his personal experience with legendary producer T Bone Burnett.
"He taught me early on that you've gotta have a good song in place first and get a good feel for it," said Dylan. "The rest of it's not going to be that important. The good ones come together - they just find you when they do."
The seasoned songwriter also discusses his work writing, recording and touring with The Wallflowers. When Harcourt asked about their plans for the future, Dylan left the topic open for discussion.
"I look forward to doing it again," said Dylan. "Soon, I hope."
Recorded in Los Angeles in May of 2009 and produced by the legendary T-Bone Burnett, Women + Country marks Dylan's second solo effort. He says he was pleased to enlist Burnett, both because the two have a longstanding friendship and because Dylan describes the producer as a musical "historian" with an unparalleled depth and breadth of knowledge when it comes to blues, folk and rock 'n' roll. "I knew that there wasn't going to be great amount of frustration making the record with him," Dylan says. "Believe it or not, this many years later, it still seems like you're trying to get around other people's ideas. I knew that wasn't going to be the issue here. That allowed me to bite off something fairly large."
Known for its exclusive performances and in-depth conversations with revered musicians, Guitar Center Sessions was the recipient of the International 3D Society's award for Best Music Television Series in 2010. The series most recently presented Weezer, Jane's Addiction, The Cult, Joe Bonamassa and CAKE. Hosted by renowned music tastemaker Nic Harcourt, the episode featuring Jakob Dylan premieres Saturday, March 19th at 9PM ET/PT in 3D on DIRECTV's n3D(TM) powered by Panasonic.
