The Photosounder blog documents how Photosounder, an audio editor that lets you edit sound like a photograph, can be used to do things like isolate instruments or create audio effects.

The top example shows the result of instrument isolation done by hand using Photosounder and Photoshop.

The example below shows how Photosounder can be used to combine two images of sounds together to create a vocoder effect.

It's fairly technical, but the site shows how photo-style audio editing can open up some interesting new options for musicians.
