As well as their massive DVZ String library and extremely authentic sample playback system, Audio Impressions have also developed a new audio networking application which lets you run extra instruments and effects on external computers. This in itself is not totally new, Muse Research's Uniwire which does this for the Receptor platform. AudioPort is different as it runs on a Mac or PC as a plug-in, enabling you to connect to a PC host running additional instruments via the Host part of the application. You can run up to 32 channels of 192kHz audio over Gigabit ethernet and using multiple computers.
The Host application runs on Windows XP and lets you run any VST instruments or effects plugins from within. Both MIDI and audio is sent over the ethernet cable which means you don't need any expensive aiddtional cabling, or in fact any expensive soundcards in the PC as the audio all flows back to the plugin in the DAW.
The round trip latency works out at a staggeringly low 4.6ms, perfectly acceptable for all applications.
Available now, AudioPort costs $129
