Digidesign have unveiled the latest member of its Mbox 2 family. Mbox 2 Micro is a pocket-sized Pro Tools LE system that provides Pro Tools users with an ultra-portable sequencing, editing and mixing solution.
The size of a typical USB flash drive, Mbox 2 Micro is basically a dongle with a headphone output, combining high-quality audio output/monitoring capabilities with the power of Pro Tools LE software, allowing Pro Tools users to easily edit and mix live or studio-recorded sessions created on Pro Tools|HD, Pro Tools LE, or Pro Tools M-Powered systems anywhere they go, or create loop-based and virtual instrument-driven tracks in Pro Tools LE.
Mbox 2 Micro features a rugged, ultra-compact, anodized aluminium case for ultimate portability. Its 1/8-inch stereo output jack supports up to 24-bit/48 kHz audio playback, allowing for high-quality monitoring, while a convenient volume wheel makes headphone adjustments easy. It comes with Pro Tools LE software, a collection of over 45 Bomb Factory and DigiRack effects plug-ins, and Digidesign’s Xpand! sample-playback/synthesis workstation.
Dusty DiMercurio, marketing manager for Digidesign personal studio products, told us, “Digidesign is fortunate to have an extremely dedicated user base that is exceptionally diverse, spanning a full range of disciplines and musical genres. We’ve received many requests from customers across the entire user spectrum seeking a greater degree of portability when using Pro Tools on the road, and we’re very excited to introduce Mbox 2 Micro as a response to that growing demand. Mbox 2 Micro not only enables on-the-go mixing and editing, but when combined with our growing family of virtual instruments, it becomes a very compelling solution for easily creating loop- and sample-based music wherever and whenever inspiration strikes.
Robert Scovill, Digidesign’s live sound market manager, adds, “For our VENUE live sound engineers, Mbox 2 Micro is ideal for reviewing, editing and mixing live recordings while en route to the next gig. For example, a FOH or monitor engineer can now easily open a previous night’s Pro Tools|HD file with the Mbox 2 Micro and Pro Tools LE. They can then re-mix the session with RTAS versions of many of the same plug-ins used on the VENUE live system. Think of it this way—now the tour bus back lounge or even the airline seat can become your own personal post facility.
Pricing and Availability:
Mbox 2 Micro has a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $279 and £155 exc. VAT (£182.13 inc. VAT). It will be available in November 2007 through authorised Digidesign dealers.
