Up to now, Line 6 appear to have been working in the lower channel counts for their TonePort USB interfaces, geared towards recording guitars, vocals, or perhaps (gasp!), a stereo keyboard. The UX8 rather changes all that and takes them up a league with 8 channels of XLR with dedicated mic pres, eight (8) 1/4-inch line inputs, two (2) 1/4-inch front panel instrument jacks, eight (8) 1/4-inch balanced line output jacks and two (2) stereo headphone jacks, as well as stereo RCA S/PDIF input and output. All this at up 96kHz/24bit resolution brings them into the more serious recording field occupied by the usual suspects. Whats more, you get the TonePort and GearBox modeling package, which you can run as plug-ins (RTAS, VST or AU). For more information on the TonePort see our review here. Included in the GearBox package you get: 18 guitar amps and 24 cabinets, 5 bass amps and 5 bass cabs, 6 mic preamps and 30 stompbox and studio effects for guitar, bass and vocals.
