Everybody wants to be a DJ, and it seems that the Numark offensive is going some way into making this wish a reality. As well as their iDJ2 (see our recent PLASA coverage), the Numark Total Control bundle can be used as a comprehensive MIDI control unit for it’s own bundled Cue LE 5.0 and Traktor LE software too. Both programs can get you up and running in next to no time with zero setup needed to be spent mapping MIDI controls to functions – they are all taken care of. However, should you desire to control your own personal choice of DJ software, because it’s MIDI, you will be able to map it up. As well as all the usual faders, cross-fader and dual scrolling ‘platters’ the EQ switches have a push function which were nicely demonstrated as EQ kill for drastic DJ type filtering. Total Control at time of filming was sold out. The first three shipments going like hot cakes, but there is currently another boat-load en route to these shores from the factory.
    features
  • 20 knobs, 5 faders, 31 buttons all send MIDI data
  • CUE LE 5.0 and Traktor LE included with controls pre–mapped
  • Easy to learn mixer / CD player layout
  • USB bus powered (no adapter needed)
  • Kensington security slot to prevent theft
  • CUE LE and Traktor controller overlays included to help identify controls
  • Mac OSX and Windows XP class–compliant / No driver needed
Street price appears to be around £179/ $250
