In our latest report from Hollywood, courtesy of Jack from Future Music on Sunset Blvd Hollywood, our reporter Shorn Rah is introduced to Woody Jackson, a collector and enthusiast of all kinds of rare and weird musical stuff. Woody has restored and MIDIfied an original Chamberlain tape playback unit. Originally designed to enhance the tonal palette available to the Hammond organ player, the Chamberlain is temperamental electro mechanical beast that was the precursor to the Mellotron. Each note is actually a piece of tape running in loop with it’s own tape head. Stay tuned, there’s more to come...
