At the October AES show in LA, Ilio Entertainment, the company that specializes In sample CDs, brought three new relases to market. Phat Fingers
“Phat Fingers” is produced by Dan Portis-Cathers. The collection delivers hundreds of funkified guitar and bass patterns, slides and fills, arranged into over 30 song construction kits. The collection features grooves that are up to five or six parts deep, with tempos ranging from 75 to 160 BPM. All of the samples are performed by Shane Roberts, a famed funk and fusion guitarist who plays regularly with guitar phenoms Stan Lassiter, Reggie Wooten, drummer Chester Thompson and sax player Jeff Coffin. The Memphis Horns
Two architects of American Pop, Soul and Rock ‘n’ Roll bring their talents to the sampling world. ILIO’s “The Memphis Horns” library is a phrase-based brass collection of trumpet, trombone, baritone and tenor sax sounds, delivering hundreds of phrases in multiple keys and tempos. The phrases are represented in two ways: in their original, complete form and divided into flexible short phrases. This allows users to easily integrate them in a way that best suits their needs. “The Memphis Horns” is written and arranged by Wayne Jackson and Andrew Love, the multi-platinum duo who have contributed to countless hit records from legendary artists such as Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding, Peter Gabriel and U2. This comprehensive library includes numerous performance styles, representing decades of recording by the music industry’s top producers, engineers and recording artists. World Winds
Acclaimed UK composer and multi-instrumentalist Dirk Campbell has sampled every instrument in his extensive wind collection for ILIO’s “World Winds” sample collection. Some of the many rarities included in this collection are the Turkish and Persian Ney flutes, Irish Penny Whistle, Scots Highland pipes, Medieval Praetorius Bagpipes and the Nafir (Moroccan trumpet). The library’s strength lies in its articulations (which include up and down bends, various types of grace notes and authentic phrases and performances) as well as straight notes. All of the samples are arranged in one keyboard layout making “World Winds” a versatile tool for any composer. In addition to debuting these new products, the company highlighted recent releases such as “Stark Raving Beats”, “Skippy’s Noizbox” and “Keys to the City”. CD-ROM libraries range in price from $199 to $299 while Audio and WAV CDs range from $99 to $149. Each library is compatible with Akai, Giga, E-mu and Roland software sample systems.
