The Venue S6L is the latest generation of live mixing consoles from Avid. Designed to allow maximum production from a small footprint, these desks bring advanced features to the live concert. Chances are if you've been to a festival or large scale live event in recent years, Avid will have been providing the mixing desk.

The digital structure allows engineers to run live ProTools plug-ins  as well as many advanced features. We spoke to legendary FOH engineer Rob Allan, who in recent years has been at the controls for Massive Attack, as well as being one of the designers of the S6L.

Combining traditional vertical layout and horizontal parameter access for the selected channel the S6L means the engineer can configure the desk using the event feature to perform many complex multi-function actions from a single physical control movement.

We also got some insight into how Rob works when mixing large complex shows.
