This video offers a sneak preview of a new hardware MIDI sequencer for the iPad, created by Synthetic Bits, the makers of the FunkBox drum machine for iOS. 

This prototype step sequencer runs on an iPad and uses the Line 6 MIDI Mobilizer interface hardware to connect to hardware synths.

In this demo video, the app is sequencing an Alesis Andromeda analog synth.

Unfortunately - this could be vaporware. The developers say "We have no firm release date for this app, no feature list, no estimated price, this is currently an experimental project."

This is a tantalizing demo. For anyone interested in traditional step sequencing, the iPad + app combination could be an affordable and expandable alternative to hardware step sequencers.
