Radiohead's Thom Yorke has some advice for young musicians: avoid the "sinking ship" of major record labels. 

"Don't tie yourself to the sinking ship," says Yorke, "because, believe me, it's sinking."

Yorke's comments are featured in the Rax Active Citizenship Toolkit, a new textbook for high school students.

Yorke goes on to say that the old music industry's days are numbered. 

“It will be only a matter of time – months rather than years," says York, "before the music business establishment completely folds.”

"When the corporate industry dies it will be no great loss to the world," adds Yorke. 

Radiohead has been one of the most influential major label bands to experiment with independent Internet distribution. They released their seventh album, In Rainbows, as a "pay what you like" download, and the album went on to be a number 1 physical release.
